In the end, since we don't have enough hours in a day, our work overflows and over fills the time we have available.

So how can we protect our precious time?

Two words:
Time Blocking.

Time Blocking can help you to make the most of your work day by assigning specific tasks to specific blocks of time in your calendar.

This not only protects your time, it also helps you focus on your priorities. If you've a backlog of tasks to get through or a deadline to achieve, time blocking can help keep you on track while keeping distractions, procrastination, and unproductive multitasking at bay.

How To Time Block Effectively

  • Spend around 15-20 minutes at the end of each day planning your tasks and creating 'time blocks' for the following day.
  • Schedule an appropriate length of time per task, based on relevant deadlines.
  • When scheduling the amount of time needed to complete a task, consider the following questions:
    • What is my highest priority?
    • How much of my effort and resources are required to complete this task?
    • Can I spread out the time needed to complete these tasks over a few days?
  • Set a goal to only focus on your tasks during the allotted blocks of time.

When you block your time, you give yourself a clearer mind space and a sense of direction. Ultimately, it allows you to work proactively instead of reactively which allows you to end your day with a feeling of accomplishment.
