I took my car in for maintenance last week. You know that regularly scheduled servicing that every car needs? Last time it was an oil check. This time it was a wheel re-alignment.

As I waited at the body shop, I started thinking about the concept of a re-alignment. Just like my wheels needed to be adjusted to function at it's best, I realized so did many of our strategic and operational goals.

Sometimes we just need to re-align our priorities to function at our best!

Ask yourself:

Do you have a goal for the quarter, for the year?
Maybe you have a few of them.

Now look at what's on your plate for today:

  • Do these tasks contribute to achieving that goal?
  • Is it time for a re-alignment of your tasks with the goals?
  • How often do you check-in for course correction?
  • Is it time to re-align the daily work to better achieve the goals?
  • Or should you re-align your goals with your current reality?

Productivity requires check-ins to see how your work is moving as it is occurring.

The changes that are influencing your work can either contribute to your successful goal achievement or derail your efforts. Knowing exactly what's on your plate and the goals you are trying to achieve is a balancing act, necessary for remaining productive.

Having a reliable system, process or approach to maintain that balance is essential.
