To promote safe messaging practices, many organizations have disabled the private chat feature in Teams. But, on March 29th, Microsoft announced that new Supervised Chats are on the way.
What is a Supervised Chat?
This feature blocks restricted users from starting new chats with other members of the team unless an appropriate supervisor is present.
When chat supervision is enabled, supervisors aren't allowed to leave chats and other participants aren't allowed to remove them. This ensures that all chats are properly supervised.
To get the most from supervised chat, each user in your environment needs to be assigned a specific chat permission role.
When will this feature be available?
The Supervised Chat feature will roll out across Microsoft Teams Desktop, Web and Mobile starting mid-April and is expected to complete rollout by early May 2021.
Please Note: Once this feature drops, it will not turn on on its own. Your IT Admin will need to enable it for you.
